HCD Enhanced Wall Cladding

HygienaClad have been installing hygienic wall cladding in many different environments for many years, primarily within the healthcare and food preparation industry. We are constantly looking for enhanced products that offer a level of protection that is required in these areas.

Many leading wall cladding materials contain Integral Biocides and cannot be deemed as truly anti-microbial.

Awareness of the dangers posed by microbes has never been greater, particularly within the Healthcare Industry with the threat of MRSA in many hospitals being identified as being contaminated with the organism.

Silver Technology

Why silver?, it is natures Antimicrobial with no toxic effects on people, animals or plants. Because it is a naturally occurring element that when used in the production of HCD Enhanced it has been proven to be safe and effective in fighting a wide range of microbes. Some antimicrobial or biocidal materials use unsafe synthetic material or volatile organic substances which can be potentially toxic and dangerous at inappropriate levels.

Now that silver based anti-microbial technology is being applied to wall cladding it’s uses within the direct food handling, pharmaceutical manufacturer and hospital environments are ensuring that micro-organisms are not allowed to proliferate and contaminate products or human health.

Because silver has these three modes of action rather than one, it is extremely unlikely that micro-organisms could develop resistance to it. Research has shown that silver ions are bactericidal against nearly 150 strains of bacteria as well as common fungi. Evidence is also mounting that silver ions have powerful antiviral effects.

HCD Enhanced has been laboratory tested by CIBA and has been proven to control the growth of M.R.S.A, E Coli and VRE (using mod aatc100) showing a reduction of up to 99.9% in some results.

Silver acts in three specific modes of action against micro-organisms

Silver ions inactivate critical physiological functions such as cell wall synthesis and membrane transport

Silver Ions have a high affinity for negatively charged side groups on biological molecules. These include groups such as thiol, carboxyl, phosphate, and other charged groups distributed throughout microbial cells. This binding reaction alters the molecular structure other macromolecule disrupting the respiration, rendering it worthless to the cell
Silver Ions bond to nucleic acids such as RNA and DNA, preventing replication
